Get High On TapCloud

Platform: Iphone

Today at App Of My Eye, we will be using TapCloud’s screenshots from the App store. Why? TapCloud by Qubop uses your IPhone camera for the background of its game and the palatial offices Ed, Art and I share are not appropriate for the World Wide Web. The gameplay is simple – you must tap clouds, planes and stars that float by onscreen. Timed levels and objectives require you to move your phone to find your targets. Soon, you start spinning around your apartment, waving your arms frantically like a hall spinner at a Grateful Dead show while you are trying to track the moving planes, falling stars or lazily floating multi-colored clouds. As levels get higher, objects move faster, causing you to shake and spin even more. When you can tap no more icons before the time runs out, TapCloud even tells you how many calories you’ve burned. This game is fun and could probably a great time waster to mollify your kids. Head over to the AppStore and pick this game up for a cool $0.99. Now, I’ve got to get going, all this spinning and swinging my arms has made me ill.

Get Cooking With Big Oven!

Big Oven

Platforms: iPhone, iPad, Windows Phone and Android

Creativity in the kitchen is so much simpler these days: with a couple mouse clicks or finger taps, you can get easy info on just about every cuisine, ingredient and technique there is. You don’t need a giant collection of cookbooks, much less purchasing a cookbook that’s a dud or too complicated for your skills. There are thousands of sites of sites on the web and multiple iphone apps. If you are tired of the effete & complicated recipes on Epicurious, give Big Oven a try. This lifestyle app has solicited over 170,000 dishes from it user base – so these should be easy for most home cooks to tackle. Big Oven can be accessed on the web or on multiple smart phone devices. You can create a profile and use it to save dishes so you can cook them later. Big Oven’s mobile offering also has a feature where you can list three items in your pantry you want included in your dish. This function is not as robust as Supercook but is fine for a mobile application. While you can download this app for free, additional features can be accessed for $15.99 (Mobile Food Glossary with ingredient substitutions, track dishes previously made, nutrition info and much more).

Meon

Meon

Platforms: Iphone, Windows Mobile

Big in Luxemborg and big in Sweeden, Meon is the Stillwater of Iphone apps. A simplified version of Helion, you must direct colored beams of light to their corresponding bulbs of the same color. Currently free in the Apstore, Meon also comes in a light version. This is not a twitch game, instead you must use your considerable brain power. There’s no time component, so Meon lets you figure things out with trial and error. This game also features a free hint option should you get stuck – telling you where two pieces must be placed. In later levels, at first, the two hints hardly seem helpful – but, are often the key locations pieces must be placed. We here at App Of My Eye have spent far to time on this little time waster – just what the best Iphone apps are supposed to do. Developer Mambolo usually charges $2.99 for their little puzzler, so get to the app store today and download it for free!

Fill Your Tank With SmartFuel®

While gas prices have fallen slightly from their all-time highs this spring,  they still are not the bargain they were years ago. SmartFuel®, for the Iphone, integrates with Google Maps and Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), and provides you the fuel prices at the gas stations in your area or along your chosen route. SmartFuel® is free for 30 days and then has a number of pricing plans for you to choose from ($4.99 for 6 months, $8.99 for one year, $14.99 for two years). The app also enables you to track your fuel costs and savings. For me, the 30 day trial period was enough for me to figure out which stations were cheapest in my area, but if you live in a large metropolitan area or travel frequently, SmartFuel® would be a solid investment. Every time I drop off a rental car, I’m annoyed by the higher prices near every US airport. Developer Iridium reports that SmartFuel will be available on Android phones later this year.
